Public speaking. Terrifying? Nervewracking? Impossible to do well? Not so! Public speaking can be an empowering and fun opportunity to express yourself, and it is an especially important skill for anarchists.

As a precursor to our springtime neighborhood speaking tour, NYMAA's
Propaganda & Arts working group is holding a number of workshops on Public Speaking for Anarchists, during which facilitator Autumn Brown will introduce the following basic tools for speaking in front of large (and small) groups:

Being Present
Speaking Your Truth
Finding Your Center
Organizing Your Thoughts
Expressing Your Style

The workshops are designed for individuals who wish to express anarchist ideas in spaces where such expression might be scary or difficult. Therefore, the training incorporates games and on-your-feet activities in order to give participants an interactive learning experience and the opportunity to actually "do" public speaking.

The next workshop will take place on Sunday, January 20, at 5:30 p.m., and it will run for approximately three hours. It will be held in the Muste Room (Room #306, Buzzer #11) at the A.J. Muste Institute, which is located at 339 Lafayette Street at the northeast corner of Bleecker Street in Manhattan. The closest subway stop is the Bleecker Street 6.

The workshop will be limited to 10 participants, so we encourage those
interested in attending to RSVP corker [at] riseup [dot] net. Otherwise,
participation will be on a first-come, first-served basis.

Please wear comfortable clothing and bring a pen and paper.

We hope to see you there!
