Sisters and Brothers:

Those of us who are fighting so that there can be justice in Oaxaca are faced with the hatred of paramilitaries, thugs, special police and military assassins who are paid by Ulises Ruiz Ortiz with the forgotten complicity of Fox, who instead of attending to the demands of the people, responds with repression and death in order to silence our just demands for democracy and equality.

Those of us, who are part of the Popular Indigenous Council of Oaxaca “Ricardo Flores Magon”, are being persecuted. Our sister, Vicky, who is disguised for defending the human rights of her district and who since the beginning of the popular movement demanded the resignation of the dictator Ulises Ruiz Ortiz, has participated actively to support her neighbors in the agency of Pueblo Nuevo, y for this cause has been subjected to constant threats and aggression towards herself and her family.

On Tues the 24th of October, around ten in the morning, when she was returning from a visit with her brother who lives in the same agency of Pueblo Nuevo, Oaxaca, upon passing the Francisco Zarco primary school, she encountered around 100 armed PRI members with sticks who had opened the school and were getting rid of books and other media materials.

GRACIELA JULIETA ARENA, who is called CHELA LA MOCHA and is recognized as a thug paid by the PRI, intercepted our sister Refugio Gregorio Bautista, who we call Vicky, to stop her because she said that she was a “teibolera” (derogatory word for prostitute) with the intention to provoke her and justify aggression against our sister; but just like Vicky, she did not fall into provocation and started to yell at her “What the hell are you looking for here, I am sure that you have come to agitate and yell at my people.” After saying this more than 100 peoples identified with the PRI and reporters who were there in the moment surrounded her.

With Bravery, our sister confronted them saying that the street was free and said that she had always used the road and would continue to use it as long as her family lived there. She then turned her back and continued on her way. Then Chela, La Mocha, took advantage to assault her like a coward, fist pushing her from the back and almost pushing her to fall on her child who she was with. While they were confused she took advantage and hit Vicky, throwing her glasses that she always wore so that she could not see. She stopped when the reporters began to take picture and because her daughter stopped her, but not before she said “Come on now, fucking walking, because this time you’ll escape because there are journalists, but the day I find you alone you’ll go to hell, that I promise you. “

It is important to mention that this is not the first transgression, August 25th accompanied by her daughters Patricia Bautista Gregorio y Maria Bautista Gregorio, she was detained by 70 people, all from the PRI who were armed with sticks who stopped them, insulted them and shoved them and threatened to take off her clothes, pour gasoline to burn them alive JOSEFINA MARMOLEJO, HOSE LUIS HERNANDEZ, with the alias “ROJO” CLEMENTINA CASTELLANOS, DAVID SANABRIA. On this occasion, she was saved because her neighbors rescued her, but not before they threatened to burn down her house.

The second transgression happened October 1st, when the same group of PRI people, under the orders of JOSEFINA MARMOLEJO, JOSE LUIS HERNANDEZ alias “EL ROJO”, CLEMENTINA CASTELLANOS, DAVID SANABRIA, “CHELA LA MOCHA” y the agent of Pueblo Nuevo detained unfairly three youth who had participated in the APPO. The tied them to a lamp post, gagged and blindfolded, with the intention of burning them alive, they had already poured gasoline on them. Before this count happen, I encountered again these same people so that they would liberate the defenseless youth, about which they began to insult me again and threaten and right after he rushed towards me and was able to grab me by my left arm and the moment he was going to hit me, JOSE LUIS HERNANDEZ alias “EL ROJO” said to him “leave her along, don’t hit that fucking hag because that fucking has is useful for compromise, because you don’t even have to touch one hair”, words that had them let go of me, not without first sentencing me: “DON’T YOU ESCAPE, ONE OF THESE DAYS I’M GOING TO BREAK YOUR BACK SO THAT YOU KNOW WHO I AM.”

Due to these facts, our sister Vicky can no longer leave her house because they are harassing her day and night. Since a man they call “the lolo” – also a PRI basher – is constantly passing by her house in a black car, she can’t even walk by herself because we fear for her safety.

Due to the above we are calling on all persons of good spirit and to the human rights organizations that you make calls, send letters, and orchestrate actions that are within reach to detain the aggressions and prevent genocide in Oaxaca.

You can direct your actions asking for:
a) That the federal government attend to the demands of the Oaxacan people and immediately remove the governor, Ulises Ruiz Ortiz
b) Stop the persecution and taking of hostages from the Oaxacan people
c) Ask the assassin governor, Ulisas Ruiz that he leaves Oaxaca because nobody wants him here and we reject him

We call on human rights organization to be aware of the events in Oaxaca because today there are no existing guarantees on individual rights and we are living in an Authoritarian state in which the deplorable government forces can assassinate us.
