III. Structure

A. Local Union: A group that focuses on a specific geographical area (block, neighborhood, borough) and fluidly responds to that area's needs and conditions. New local unions are proposed and admitted at NYMAA general assemblies, in lieu of any major objections. Local unions determine their own mode of operation. Three or more people comprise a local.

B. Working Group: A unit that focuses on a single specific internal or external project, regardless of locale. New working groups are proposed at NYMAA general assemblies and must be approved by vote. Working groups determine their own mode of operation. Generally, two or more people constitute a working group.

C. Caucus: A unit formed by NYMAA members who face similar forms of oppression and who wish to collectively influence the internal workings of NYMAA from their unique perspective. Caucuses can be formed at any time, do not require approval by vote, and determine their own mode of operation.

D. Point Person: Each grouplet (i.e. local, working group, or caucus) will have a Point Person who will serve as a liaison between his/her group, NYMAA as a whole, and other interested individuals. While the intricacies of this position will be unique to each grouplet, every Point Person will be responsible for the following:

- Serving as a contact person

- Making themselves available to respond to general inquiries/making sure that inquiries into the grouplet’s mission, actions, etc. are addressed

- Ensuring that report backs of the grouplet’s activities are made at every GA

- Announcing grouplet meeting times and locations to the NYMAA community

We believe that the existence of this role will allow for there to be a more transparent line of accountability for the larger NYMAA community. The Point Person must be comfortable having their contact information being made available to people outside of their grouplet. Any change in Point Person information should be made available to the Comms Group as soon as possible.
